SUKŌN IS A WEIRD BEAST
Ok. This library is weird for sure.
SUKŌN WAS BORN
All the samples were originally sampled into an old mid-eighties Japanese sampler of the lowest possible quality - on paper that is.
It did open up the wonderful world of sampling to a broader crowd and at that time not many of us knew, or even cared, about bits and kilohertz.
This sampler was all you needed to make that fart or burb sample we all started out with. Nothing more fun, right?
As time passed and samplers got better this small Japanese instrument was forgotten due to its very low quality only to emerge again in the new millennium.
This time not to introduce the world to sampling but to add some serious grit and aliasing to an otherwise clean production.
At this our small friend excels.
THAT EXTRA WORK
Working on Sukōn we realized we had to do the extra work of sampling every single key on the sampler as we simply found the quality of just playing a single sample at the full keyboard range was simply too low. All samples are looped 100% like the original sampler would do it, but after that the changes you can do in Sukōn will surprise you for sure.
A LOOP INSTRUMENT? GRANULAR?
You could say that Sukōn is a loop instrument and you would be right, but we think it is so much more than that.
It has some weird granular effects to it, but it is hard to explain exactly how it sounds and even how it does produce its wicked sounds. So please take a listen to some of the demos.
